Although the first stone was laid on 10 March 1552, according to the plans by the famous architect Galeazzo Alessi, the construction of the church has never been finished. A visit to the Santa Maria Assunta church is especially appealing, as it is home to two works by the French sculptor Pierre Puget, which were commissioned to decorate the dome of the church.
