The
town of Genoa, the capital of Liguria in northern Italy, used to be an extremely busy
trading post and a Mecca for artists. The prosperity of its
trade activities enabled affluent families to build up
admirable art collections, including the most beautiful
Flemish and Italian works of the 16th and 17th centuries.
In addition to its magnificent residences, the town is home to an impressive number
of religious buildings constructed over the centuries
and which bear testament to the town's history and influence.
The itinerary suggested here is aimed at some of the
Romanesque, gothic and baroque churches, which are worth noting due to their
architectural aspect and the fact that they often house precious
paintings and sculptures from the Renaissance and the baroque age.
